LOS ANGELES – Emma Stone hilariously overcame a wardrobe malfunction in her Louis Vuitton dress to joyfully accept the second Oscar of her career on stage Sunday at the 96th Academy Awards.
However, that was not the only obstacle at the awards ceremony. “Poor things” The star had to endure during the Oscar show hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. Earlier in the night, away from the TV cameras, Stone was also stranded in the Dolby Theater lobby bar when her film went on an awards streak, taking home three major awards without the star applauding from her front-row seat. line in the auditorium.
But that’s the world of live television entertainment. And he proves once again that what you don’t see during the live Oscar television broadcast is often just as fascinating as the drama on stage.
USA TODAY had eyes and ears in the audience, in the backstage press room and, yes, in the Dolby Theater lobby bar. Here’s what happened behind the scenes at the Oscars when “Oppenheimer” won seven Oscars, including best picture, and Ryan Gosling sang an immortal “I’m Just Ken.”

‘Oh Lord!’ Emma Stone can’t believe she missed three Oscars for ‘Poor Thing’
Unfortunately, Emma left her seat in the theater at the exact wrong time. Stone was elated when “Poor Thing” won its first Oscar for best makeup and hairstyling, running toward the lobby’s television screen with wide eyes. But the actress was also horrified at not being present.
“My God, my God, we won and I wasn’t sitting down,” Stone lamented to the lobby monitor, his eyes watering and his hand on his head. He explained to no one in particular: “Sorry, we went to the bathroom and missed this. We can’t go in now. They won’t let us, right?
No, you were unable to re-enter the theater during the live broadcast. Then, Stone literally jumped off the floor with joy when “Poor Things” won another category, production design. Her husband Dave McCary brought sparkling wine and the two toasted to celebrate. Florence Pugh also joined the growing team with Eva Longoria behind her. Pugh laughed out loud about a nearly naked John Cena on stage presenting the best costume.
But Stone was focused on the Oscars. “I’m so (expletive) excited,” he shouted.
“My God, and they’re making costumes,” she added, wiping away tears and her nose red from crying. More cheers ensued when “Poor Things” also won for costume design. “Oh my god! Oh my god!” -exclaimed Stone-.
When the commercial break finally came, Stone grabbed her husband’s hands and ran back to the auditorium, pushing the limits of the dress’s mermaid bottom.

Emma Stone Explains Her Wardrobe Malfunction (Blames Ryan Gosling)
Speaking of Stone, the actress discussed her wardrobe difficulties backstage and begged the audience, during her best actress acceptance speech, not to look at the back of her dress. Stone continued to blame the tear on her cheering during Gosling’s performance of “I’m Just Ken.”
“They sewed me back up,” Stone said. “I really think I broke it during ‘I’m Only Ken.’ He was so amazed by Ryan and what he was doing and that number blew my mind. “I was there, I was going for it and things happen.”
During the commercial break before winning her award, Stone ran up to “Poor Things” director Yorgos Lanthimos and knelt in front of his seat for a passionate conversation. When they got up, she tried to fix the dress. Lanthimos wasn’t entirely successful, but they shared a long hug and Stone blew kisses at Lanthimos as she walked away from her.

Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig go crazy for Gosling’s fantastic performance in Ken
If you watched at home, you saw Gosling’s epic (and, dare we say, Oscar-historical) performance of “I’m Just Ken” and plenty of dancing Kens.
We knew it was going to be special when we saw the dancing Kens practicing their moves right outside the auditorium until the moment they took the stage, dressed in their fantastic Ken cowboy hats. After the impressive performance, the 64 dancers became rowdy outside the auditorium, waving their arms. They gathered in an ecstatic circle, jumping and shouting, “Ken! Acquaintance! Acquaintance! Acquaintance!”
The Ken-ergy was even bigger among the public. The stars pulled out their smartphones and stood to listen to Gosling’s raucous number. Later, Gosling’s sister Mandi danced down the aisle to Icona Pop’s “I Love It” in her new black cowboy hat. “Barbie” star Margot Robbie spoke with director Greta Gerwig, open-mouthed and beaming as they held hands in complete amazement at what they had just seen on stage.

Da’Vine Joy Randolph explains gesture to grandmother that made her sob
Before her win for best supporting actress, Da’Vine Joy Randolph broke down in tears on television when Lupita Nyong’o introduced her as a nominee in the category and noted that Randolph incorporated her late grandmother’s glasses into her performance of “The Holdovers”.
Randolph spoke about what those shows mean to her, calling the glasses a “crucial” touch to her performance in the backstage press room.
In the auditorium, the crowd was instantly on its feet when Randolph’s name was called, while her friend Nyong’o danced happily on stage. Nominee America Ferrera clearly had no hard feelings about her loss to “The Holdovers” star. Ferrera wore a big smile alongside “Barbie” director Gerwig and her co-star Robbie during the commercial break immediately afterward.

Ariana Grande is the last to sit down, the first to leave
Leave it to “Wicked” star Ariana Grande to close out the Oscars. Grande was the last star to sit down at the start of the show, plopping into her seat in her flowy pink Giambattista Valli couture dress just as the giant clock on stage marked 4 seconds until broadcast.
Grande was also the first star to leave the show, leaving for a VIP exit just before the final award. The “Thank U, Next” singer talked to a fan in the lobby as she left, but then she hiked up her dress and headed to a special elevator for that car ride.
