a new How to Train Your Dragon is preparing to take flight, in real action.
Following the recent wave of live-action remakes of Disney animated projects, some of which, like Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin, have grossed more than $1 billion at the global box office: Universal is producing the first live-action remake of a DreamWorks animated film. Dean DeBlois, who directed the original 2010 film. How to Train Your Dragonwill direct the live-action remake, which is currently set to release on June 13, 2025.

Mason Thames as Hiccup

Mason Thames, who directed The black phone Along with Ethan Hawke, he will play the protagonist Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, a young blacksmith’s apprentice who befriends the dangerous dragon Toothless despite the wishes of his father, the village chief. Jay Baruchel voiced Hiccup in the animated films.
Gerard Butler as Stoick

300 and Olympus has fallen Star Gerard Butler will play Stoick the Vast, the brave leader of Berk and Hiccup’s distant father. Butler also voiced Stoick in the animated films, and is the only cast member to date to reprise his role from the original films in live-action.
Nick Frost as Gobber

Nick Frost, star of hot fluff and Shaun of the dead, will play Gobber the Burp, the town blacksmith who advises Hiccup and his friends on their dragon training escapades. Craig Ferguson provided the voice of Gobber in the original film.
Julian Dennison as Fishlegs

Julian Dennison, who caused a sensation in Hunting of the wild people and then starred in box office hits like Deadpool 2 and Godzilla vs. Kong, will play Fishlegs Ingerman, a serious young dragon lover who is friendly with Hiccup. Christopher Mintz-Plasse voiced Fishlegs in the animated films.
Gabriel Howell as Snotlout

Gabriel Howell, who previously appeared on the Netflix series. Bodies, will play Snotlout Jorgenson, one of Hiccup’s most antagonistic and arrogant acquaintances. Jonah Hill voiced Snotlout in the animated films.
Bronwyn James as Ruffnut

Bronwyn James, who appeared in The excavation and Lockwood and company. on Netflix, she’ll play Ruffnut Thorston, half of an annoying twin duo who trains dragons alongside Hiccup and Astrid. Kristen Wiig provided the original voice of Ruffnut.
Harry Trevaldwyn as Tuffnut

Harry Trevaldwyn, whose previous projects include The bubble and The king, will play Tuffnut Thorston, the other half of the aforementioned twin duo. Tuffnut was played by TJ Miller in the animated films.
Ruth Codd as Phlegm

EW can confirm that Ruth Codd, a TikTok star turned actress who made a memorable appearance on The fall of the house of Usher, will play Phlegma the Fierce, a villager from Berk. Ashley Jensen voiced Phlegma in the original film.
