Indian Premier League (IPL) team Punjab Kings (PBKS) unveiled their jersey for the upcoming IPL 2024 on Saturday, March 16 at the Elante Mall in Chandigarh. PBKS captain Shikhar Dhawan, fast bowler Arshdeep Singh, wicketkeeper Jitesh Shrma and co-owner Preity Zinta were also present during the event. While speaking at the event, Zinta shared his opinion on the shirt for next season He also remembered the old Punjab jersey that had a mix of red and gray from 2009-2013.

However, the Bollywood actor revealed that the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) banned colors like white, gray and silver because they matched the color of the ball. Hence, the franchise has had to change its choice of colors and is now seen completely in red.

“Earlier we had a combination of red, gray and silver, but then the BCCI banned silver, gray and white due to ball sighting issues. That is why we continue with red and this year we have the best combination with red,” Zinta said at the event.

Notably, Punjab did not have a memorable season in 2023 as they finished in eighth place in the points table with six wins from 14 matches and 12 points to their name. They have also strengthened their squad ahead of the season by buying seamer Harshal Patel, all-rounder Chris Woakes and swashbuckling batsman Rilee Rossouw in the mini-auction.

In the upcoming season, Punjab will begin their campaign against Delhi Capitals on Saturday, March 23 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, Chandigarh. Additionally, they will face Royal Challengers Bangalore, Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans in the first phase of the tournament. The BCCI has announced the schedule for the first 21 matches of the tournament and will announce the remaining ones once the schedule for the General Elections is known.
