Emma Stone accepts the Oscar for best actress from Jennifer Lawrence and Michelle Yeoh

Michelle Yeoh took a moment Monday to clarify why she presented Emma Stone’s best actress Oscar to Jennifer Lawrence right before Stone accepted the trophy on stage.
At the 2024 Oscars on Sunday, five former best actress Oscar winners took a moment to introduce each of this year’s nominees, and last year’s winner, Michelle Yeoh, presented the trophy to the winner. However, when Stone’s name was mentioned, Yeoh took an extra second to hand the trophy to Jennifer Lawrence, so Lawrence could hand it to Stone.
“I confused you, but I wanted to share that glorious moment of giving you (your) Oscar along with your best friend Jennifer!!” Yeoh wrote on Instagram on Monday. He Everything everywhere and at the same time The star went on to explain that Stone and Lawrence’s friendship reminds her of herself and “my Bae Jamie Lee Curtis.” Curtis won best supporting actress last year, also for Everything everywhere.
Oscar viewers were confused by the moment on Sunday, unclear as to why Stone had not accepted the award directly from Yeoh, with some claiming the moment was an example of racism against Yeoh.
Yeoh ended his praise of Stone and Lawrence’s friendship on Monday by writing, “always there for each other!!”
Lawrence won her Oscar for best actress in 2013 for Bright Side Playbook. Also on stage to present on Sunday was Sally Field (1980’s Norma Rae and 1985 Places in the heart), Charlize Theron (2004 Monster) and Jessica Lange (1995 Blue skyalready the best supporting actress in 1983 Tootsie).
Stone defeated Annette Bening (nyad), Lily Gladstone (Flower Moon Killers), Sandra Huller (Anatomy of a fall) and Carey Mulligan (Teacher) for the trophy on Sunday. It is his second Oscar, after winning it for her performance in The The Earth in 2017. Previously, she has also been nominated for the favorite in 2019 and bird man in 2015.
She acknowledged all of her fellow nominees in her acceptance speech, but took an extra moment to address Gladstone, who many expected to win.. “I share this with you,” he told Gladstone. “I’m afraid of you. And it’s been a great honor to do all this together; I hope we can do more together.”
