Why Rapper Killer Mike Hasn’t Endorsed Joe Biden: No Interest in ‘Soap Opera’

Rapper Killer Mike spat at The View host Sunny Hostin on Monday after praising Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp. As the veteran progressive activist spoke about his interest in local elections, he was asked why he wouldn’t endorse President Joe Biden. The conversation veered into several corners, including his recent arrest at the Grammys.

When asked why he had shown no interest in endorsing Bide, Killer Mike directed the hosts’ attention to local communities. He addressed the federal election obsession craze as a “soap opera.” For him, not knowing the city council, the mayor, the mayor and a good list of state representatives or governors meant that “you are only part of whoever wins the Super Bowl, the fanfare.”

‘Fanfare’ aside, he put the Atlanta mayoral race at the center of the conversation, as he considers it the most important election. As an Atlanta native, Killer Mike praised Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens and appreciated everything he was doing with the city’s housing system. At the same time, he also praised Kemp for all he had done for Georgian businesses.

Killer Mike’s Focus on the Hyperlocal

Following his grandfather’s example, he claimed to be “staying out of white people’s affairs.” “If a candidate appears in September or October, he needs a push that is really good politically for us, that jumps, but right now I don’t want to get involved in the soap opera because I’m worried about what’s happening in Atlanta at hyperlocal level,” he added.

Having occupied a unique political stance, Killer Mike supported Senator Bernie Sanders in 2016 and even worked with Georgia Democratic Senators Jon Osoff and Raphael Warnock, whose campaigns finally broke the state’s long streak of Republican victories.

Killer Mike criticizes The View host over his ‘support for Kemp’

When host Sunny Hostin claimed to have left the conversation due to his “support for Kemp,” the rapper instantly reappeared. “That is misinformation. You may not like me, but don’t lie to me.”

He continued his defense by stating that he had to be involved with him since he was governor of his state. While she avoided the host’s criticism of him, she couldn’t deal with the ‘lie’ that she supported anyone. “Don’t say I didn’t support (Stacey) Abrams because I did. Don’t say I don’t support Democrats because I’ve helped elect three Democratic mayors and two state representatives, but if someone is in the king’s seat, I’m not going to not dine with the king on behalf of my people. I have to do that,” he continued.

Going back to the previous exchange in which Killer Mike had not yet endorsed Biden, Hostin highlighted Biden’s many accomplishments for the Black community in hopes that he would consider them all.

When asked about his arrest at the Grammys, the rapper told the hosts that he couldn’t speak openly about it: “I think security got a little too zealous and it’s a thing of the past for me.”
