Beau DeMayo, head writer and executive producer of Disney+. X-Men ’97, Marvel Animation’s revival of the classic ’90s animated series parted ways with Marvel just before the series premiered, sources close to the project told Deadline.

The reason for his departure is unclear. De Mayo had already finished writing seasons 1 and 2 of the series, which will premiere in Los Angeles tomorrow, March 13. The series begins streaming its first season on March 20 on Disney+.

Marvel had no comment.

X-Men ’97 Revisits the iconic era of the 1990s when The X-Men, a band of mutants who use their strange gifts to protect a world that hates and fears them, are challenged like never before, forced to face a dangerous and unexpected new future. .

The series was initially expected to premiere in 2023, but was delayed to early 2024 due to two Hollywood strikes.

The episodes are directed by Jake Castorena, Chase Conley and Emi Yonemura. Featuring music by The Newton Brothers, the series is executive produced by Brad Winderbaum, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito and Victoria Alonso.
