Update: Xbox subsequently clarified that Diablo IV will, in fact, not be available for all 34 million Xbox Game Pass subscribers. The game will not be part of the Xbox Game Pass Core core range at this time.
“Diablo IV will arrive on Xbox Game Pass on March 28, with the exception of the Xbox Game Pass Core catalog,” Xbox communications manager Kari Perez explained in a statement provided to The edge.
The clarification comes as a result of today’s decision. Xbox Blog Postwhich otherwise states that “Diablo IV will be available to the 34 million Game Pass subscribers on both PC and Xbox consoles starting March 28!”
The 34 million subscriber figure is confirmed to include Xbox Game Pass Core members. Introduced in mid-2023, Xbox Game Pass Core was the replacement service for Xbox Live Gold and gives members access to multiplayer and a curated selection of 25+ games from the entire Game Pass library.
Microsoft revealed during a special Xbox podcast episode that there are currently 34 million Game Pass subscribers on consoles, PC and the cloud.
It’s unclear how exactly that 34 million figure is distributed between each platform where Game Pass is offered. However, Xbox head Phil Spencer offered a bit of information on the matter, telling Stephen Totilo’s Game File Newsletter that the service has recently seen strong growth on PC and cloud. He also confirmed that every one of Game Pass’ 34 million members is a paying subscriber.
“When there are a fixed number of console gamers on the planet, you’re not going to grow Game Pass forever by only distributing it on consoles,” Spencer said. “So we’re seeing really significant growth in PC, which is fantastic, and in the cloud.”
The edge It has also confirmed with Microsoft that that 34 million figure includes Xbox Game Pass Core. For those unfamiliar, last summer Microsoft phased out its Xbox Live Gold program and starting September 14, those who were still subscribed to the service saw their accounts automatically upgraded to a new tier called Core of the game pass. At the time, the company described the service as an evolution of Gold that gives players access to a limited portion of the Game Pass library.
Curiously, currently Xbox Blog Post, Microsoft announced that “Diablo IV will be available to the 34 million Game Pass subscribers on PC and Xbox consoles starting March 28.” That could seem to imply that it would be available to Core subscribers, but that is currently unclear.
The latest Xbox update
Our last official Game Pass numbers update came in early 2022, when the company Announced had reached 25 million subscribers. In November of that same year, Sony reported that the service had grown to 29 million users. Depending on the subscription plan, Xbox Game Pass is currently available on consoles, PCs, and cloud-enabled devices.
Microsoft has not clarified how many Xbox Series X | S consoles have been sold. However, thanks to a recent financial report from Take-Two Interactive, we can They estimate that the company has moved around 27 million units.
Today’s Game Pass update comes alongside the news that Xbox will soon bring some of its previous exclusive titles to rival platforms like Nintendo and PlayStation consoles. It is said that for now only four titles are making the leap. This is all while Microsoft looks to the future to deliver your next console.
As fans prepare for the future of Xbox, they can look forward to Activision Blizzard titles on Game Pass. The first addition, as mentioned above, will be Diablo 4 on March 28.
