Yami Gautam is enjoying the success of his latest release, Article 370. A few days ago, there were reports claiming that the film was banned in the Gulf countries. Now in a new interview With Variety, the actress shared that she doesn’t see anything “offensive” in the film, adding that it’s simply a matter of a certain perspective. Speaking to Variety about the film being denied access to Gulf markets, Yami said: “We didn’t really anticipate this because we feel that there is nothing in the film that is offensive. The way it is performing here in India, I don’t see anyone taking offense to the film. In fact, people are spreading the word that this is not a propaganda film. (However) there will be some people who, without looking, will pass judgment and we are used to it. And they say to themselves: you come out of the movie feeling proud and patriotic. And this is something that led to very important peace and development in a state like Kashmir.”
“What may be patriotism for someone, for me is patriotism”
He further added about his experience of watching the film in a packed house. “It’s a matter of perspective: what might be jingoism for someone, for me is patriotism. (Seeing the movie in a theater was one of the) best experiences in recent times. We were all clapping and shouting and they were all strangers sitting next to each other, but if you can instill that feeling of unity, of feeling good about something, I think that’s an achievement. I like to see the bigger story, the positive story, and go home with that,” he said.
Article 370 is backed by Jio Studios and B62 Studios, Aditya Dhar’s banner. Yami plays the role of intelligence officer Zooni Haksar. Set entirely in the scenic backdrop of Jammu and Kashmir, the film is based on the historic revocation of Article 370, which granted special constitutional privileges to the erstwhile state. Apart from Yami, the film also stars Priyamani, Arun Govil and Kiran Karmarkar in the lead roles.
